Day 1 of the Mini Challenge

Today is the first day of the mini challenge.  I decided to continue to keep me accountable.  This weekend, I spent the day with my mom and she is a fast food junkie.  Yes, I had Wendy’s.  I had 1/2 chicken sandwich, 1/2 of a small fry and 3/4 of a small Dr. Pepper.  I then went on to have pizza for dinner that night.  That was not bad enough they had a special and I would save money by getting the deal with cinnamon sticks.  Yep, I ate them all.  The next day I was kicking myself.  I am glad we are starting today.  This forum obviously keeps me in line.  No way have I wanted to sway.  Too many people have supported me and helped me along.  Not only do I not want to disappoint myself but also I do not want to disappoint those who have helped me.

So today, I went on a two-mile walk with my cousin.  We just did our normal. We were not in the mood to go up in the mountains.  We walked at a brisk pace.  On the inclines, we only struggled to catch our breathe the second time around, but not enough to stop.  A sign of how far we have come.

I had hard-boiled eggs and toast for breakfast along with a bottle of water.  I should have eaten before walking but sleep seemed to be more important.

I am going to try to do some RT tonight.  The boys should be coming at the end of the week and then I will not have access to the equipment.

Since I lost 10 pounds and I felt I should have lost 15, I am going to log my food, get my calories, and find out if I am eating too much.  With all the time constraints and the holiday, I figured if I posted half the time it would get me ready for next years 52DC.

I purchased a circa recipe book and want to put in the recipes I use along with the calorie information.  I love trying new recipes but sometimes I forget what cookbook they came from.  I used to be good at entering the recipe in the computer but life got in the way and I have not been doing it.  I know I purchased avocado oil for a few new recipes but I will be danged if I can remember what cookbook they came from.

Day 19

November 4, 2008

So today was a day.  I would like to know what happened to being proud of your work.  Doing what is best for your client, patient or customer.  After all we do contribute to your paycheck.  This country has a lot of people who are not doing their job.  Why do employers keep these people?  They know no mater what they do wrong they will not lose their jobs.  Maybe they should start firing these people.  There are enough people unemployed who I am sure would do a way better job.  Maybe not enough people complain or even care if they get shoddy service or equipment.


I finally got my microwave, FINALLY.  I filed a claim on August 29th and today is November 3rd.  Great service.  BUT, I am so happy to finally have it.  Bottom line, stove and microwave only cost me 60 bucks.


Funny I finally had a microwave and did not use it.  I had a plumber in and the GE delivery people and I was starving.  I was going to jump in my car and go to Del Taco and get a burger, fries and a soda.  I talked myself out of it.  I was going to go to the grocery store and get some bread and dibbs.  I talked myself out of it and made the most amazing meal.  Just started throwing things in, tomatoes, corn, red beans, brown rice, olives, onions, shallots, ground turkey.  Yummy.  Tasted better than any ole burger any day.


Wednesday I am doing my normal walking/hiking.  I am going to go up this road to the top.  TNT Man said I can do it so I will try.  Going to take my camera and take a picture. I am sure the view will be spectacular.  Thursday I am going to the library which is situated on 207 acres with 120 acres of it being botanical gardens.  I ought to be putting on some miles there. 


Tuesday, I will do some RT or use the Performance Ball wile listening to the news to see who our next President of the United States is.  I hope this country makes the right choice and whoever wins does the right thing for the country and moves us forward.

Day Eighteen

November 2, 2008


I forgot to set the clocks and that dang alarm clock woke me up an hour early.  It woke up the dog so no trying to go back to sleep.  Headed to my daughter’s this morning and had a nice visit.  Tried to get my blinds but forgot to count the slats. (Who goes to buy replacement slats without counting how many you need!)


I have this pair of jeans I only wear when I need to be nicer dressed and they are tight and I have to wear them awhile just to get them loosened or I have a huge muffin top.  Imagine my surprise when they buttoned right up with me not even sucking in the stomach.  I may not have lost any weight but my jeans feel a little looser and that is just fine by me.  I hesitate buying new jeans because I AM going to loose weight this time and only want to buy a pair of jeans one size smaller than then ones I have now. I would love to have them by Thanksgiving and I WILL, I WILL. 


Still struggling with the motivation to get on the treadmill, use the Bowflex or free weights and use the Performance ball.  I am spending some time but wish to do an extra day.


I had a box of cookies my mom had given me awhile back so decided to bake them last night to try out my new oven.  (A box of Minnesota Cookies with all the dry ingredients inside, chocolate chips,  butter brickle, pecans.  Just add real butter, an egg and water.) The box made four cookie sheets full of cookies.  I took two bites out of one cookie and thought they were disgusting and threw them all in the trash.  Amazing how your taste buds change.  It seems nothing tastes good unless it has some herbs on it.  This is a very good thing.


As soon as things slow down here I want to bake some of my own bread and pasta.  I really miss it.  I used to do it when I first got married.  Now that I have a new oven that actually has a consistent heat, it should come out great.  I have all the ingredients waiting for some free time. 


In the AOTD today I posted that my favorite restaurants are Mimi’s Café and BJ’s.  Mimi’s Café has a plate I order mostly in the summer.  It is a broiled chicken breast with lettuce, fresh fruit and a freshly baked yummy muffin.  So satisfying and cool on a hot summer day.  At BJ’s they have so much to choose from.  They have the biggest baked potatoes you have ever seen.  Filled with all kinds of things. 


Here are my numbers so far.  I am on a pretty good roll. 


CE: 36/36/80  (This may seem easy but I am highly motivated and have no desire to not eat clean.)
RT: 4/15  (Wish I could get as motivated to do this as eating clean.)
CT: 6/10 
PG2: Walk/Hike outside one day a week minimum. (7 days) (I am really enjoying the walks and wish I had several partners.  I need someone to push me.  I get great joy in helping my cousin and it does help me also.  Brooklyn is a speed walker.  Man can he walk fast with those short little legs.  I might start counting our walks as cardio.  Would a 1/2 hour walk count as cardio if you were really walking fast and having to stop to catch your breath?)
PG4: Read one day a week. (5 days)  Not reading my book but reading lots of magazines and flipping through books and reading the TNT Diet book.  As long as I am resting, relaxing and reading for a minimum of 1/2 hour, I figure it does not matter what I read. 


So tomorrow is a new week with new challenges and opportunities.
